Jemboss is a Graphical User Interface and allows access to the EMBOSS analysis applications through a point and click
utility. Three panes within the Jemboss window allow you to access all the information and input you need to successfully
run your computational analysis.
The default file manager can be set to reflect the directory you most commonly wish to use, and utilites allow management of files within the Jemboss interface. Input files may be saved and used as default for repetitive input. Results may be stored, edited or used as input for further analysis. Each analysis application is easy to load and run. Documentation is an integral part of the interface and the relevant manual is instantly available at the click of a button. This utility is included as standard on all BioBind software and, in addition to acting as an interface for all 201 EMBOSS applications, the Jemboss suite includes: |
|
|
Calculating percentage identities and customising consensus sequences Pattern searching Alignment annotation Exporting and printing alignment displays
Genetic Feature insertion Restriction Enzyme insertion The interface also links to Jalview - a further utility designed for viewing and editing multiple sequence alignments.

The full distribution, including all applications, their documentation,
relevant databases and the Jemboss interface will occupy approximately 145
Mb disk space. The Cygwin addition for Windows requires approximately 1.6
Gb. It is recommended that your computer has a RAM capacity of at least
256 Mb, although the programmes will function with 128 Mb RAM.
The runtime of the applications is dependent on the speed of your computer. Analyses involving large sequences or expanded searches may take several seconds. |
